Why Physical Exercise ?

Physical activity or exercise can improve your health and reduce the risk of developing several diseases like type 2 diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. Physical exercise promotes strong muscles and bones while also improving respiratory, cardiovascular health, and overall health. Most of all, daily physical exercise can improve your quality of life.

Physical exercise is of many kinds. It depends on the person performing the exercise, some people like working out in a gym, some enjoy morning walk, and others may find pleasure in cycling or swimming. Physical exercise is not necessarily about lifting weights or running long distances, everyday activities like gardening, meditation, yoga, etc. are also some highly effective exercises which helps to keep our body fit and healthy. People should choose the most convenient exercise for them and perform it in a regular basis to achieve better results.

 Any physical exercise is better than none!

 Exercise is a good source of energy, stamina and strength. Moreover, physical exercise can relieve stress, anxiety, depression and anger keeping us mentally healthy. With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns, many people are stuck at home with nothing much to do. Strict restrictions has limited people from taking part in activities like going to gym, running and cycling. Furthermore, in this free time most of the people are using the internet frequently and with more time spent on the internet, people are being bombarded with worrying news which has caused a lot of people to struggle mentally.

Although these restrictions are necessary in times like now, our bodies and minds still need physical activity and its benefits. Some major benefits include strengthening and maintaining your immune system, well maintained weight, lower blood cholesterol level, stronger bones, muscles and joints, low risk of heart attack, healthier state of mind, and so on. We need to neglect our idleness or our health will neglect us.

A study conducted in 2020 found that the patients who had constantly met the recommended physical activity guidelines in the preceding couple of years were less likely to develop severe Covid-19 among infected patients.

In the current scenario where healthcare services and systems are under stress and resources are limited, it is important for all of us to stay physically active, so we need to find and plan ways to self-maintain ourselves by performing physical exercise.
